You have described well how difficult it can be to get the best treatment, which often is involuntary commitment until fully stabilized. The proliferation of guns, the failure of mental health laws to make it more likely for people to get the treatment they need, and the fact that we mental health professionals are not perfect nor omniscient, contribute to the issue. But the one CONSTANT in every mass shooting is the availability and easy access to assault rifles.
