Wow. As a psychotherapist, I have seen for many years the effects hormones have on people, and women in particular. As a First Wave Feminist, it took a lot for me to acknowledge that our own hormones and the ones we add with birth control affect our emotional state. I have experienced it, and migraines caused by birth control pills, and have seen it with clients. Having realized that, however, it is also extremely important to me that women maintain access to all forms of birth control, as too many children in too short a time has also caused depression, fatigue, suicidal ideation and suicide. Hormone replacement for older women, in fact, has the opposite affect of balancing moods, clearing thinking, and keeping women active. The answer may just lie in finally approving birth control for men that is more reliable than condoms.
