When did you last read the Declaration of Independence? If you’re like me, it was in high school.
Read it again
Today, the Declaration is frighteningly prescient as regards the current Republican candidate.
Trump has done or attempted many of the actions and crimes the writers of the Declaration of Independence levied at the King of England during the fight for United States’ independence. Including discouraging immigration.
“He (the king at that time) has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.”
The comparison to the man who plans mass deportation and housing immigrants in detention camps is obvious. Trump also banned Muslims from entering the country while he was President, a ban both discriminatory and damaging to refugees.
