This happens frequently when only one spouse really wants counseling. When the spouse who doesn’t is asked to look at his feelings underlying the behavior, or is called out for the behavior, they decide the therapist and the other spouse are “ganging up” on them. In my experience as a therapist, that spouse is most often male.
