There are different types of therapists. I’m a Gestalt therapist, and we do share our own experience if it will directly benefit the client. As an NLP practitioner as well, I know modeling my own therapeutic journey can be useful. Your therapist sounds more like a Cognitive Behavioral therapist. They usually focus more on the here and now. The rest of us will most definitely ask about your childhood, where first traumas happen, and most troubling thoughts and emotions begin. You can ask if CBT is her focus, and if you want to do deeper work with a more open therapist, ask her for a referral or look elsewhere.
