The simple rule of writing or saying the sentence, using one and then the other word, is a good standard for most grammar questions. Apparently, most people weren’t taught this. If you say “Him and I went to the store,” then take the word I out, it will sound obvious that it has to be “HE and I went to the store.” Simple solution to many grammar questions.
