Thank you Carmen. I completely agree. I had a certain disdain for the field in the early years of life coaching. I still would never recommend it instead of counseling. If I hadn’t worked with this client so long, and knew how well-adjusted they had become, I would have been more concerned. I did ask a lot of questions about the life coach the client had already chosen. I have two I know well and trust. But, yes, life coaches are not therapists and have not been required to go to therapy themselves, so someone choosing a life coach should vet them well.
