I’m well aware of the one drop rule, and that it is white supremacy that insists mixed people are Black. I prefer my son be seen as who he is. As he told a white playmate when he was three years old, who asked if he was Black, he said, “ No, I’m Blake.” I am simply stating the reality of how he is perceived here. And I’ve taught him to be proud of his heritage.
