I'm of an age where I was denied a car loan because they only took my husband's income into account. A banker did want to give me a business loan until he knew when I'd be getting married. In my lifetime, women couldn't get credit cards or open bank accounts in their name only. In states where the ERA passed (it still hasn't been ratified) these actions were illegal, but I still had to call the actors out to get what I needed.
