I was with you up to this point. If Heinlein could be labeled politically, he was Libertarian. All of his books are about the power of the individual. They all also skewered American society and politics with dark humor. He wrote this book as part of his series for adolescents, so it might have been less subtle, but he was telling kids not to get swept up in tribalism and fascism.
