Having just started the series, I didn’t realize it gets so dark, even though I knew it is based on the true story. I made the mistake of not reporting my attacker. I did make sure he couldn’t teach martial arts anywhere again. But I should have had him arrested. He was my Sensei and a Black man and I’m a white woman.. My generation and my being an ally kept me from calling the police. In my city, there was also a chance they would arrest us both, as I had fought back to defend my life.
