As a psychotherapist whose clientele include transgender people, I applaud you and your honesty. My work with transgender people often involves treating the same underlying depression and anxiety that my cis gender clients suffer from. As you point out, the pain of dysphoria is one thing, and the pain of depression is it’s own brand of hell. Some transgender people have depression in general, and some do not. Just as any form of plastic surgery doesn’t magically make people feel better, neither does transitioning. What both can do is make you feel fully yourself.
