But why tomorrow and not today?
This notice appeared suddenly in the top right corner of my computer. I was writing a screenplay at the time, not a Medium story. And I for sure didn’t program the notification, although it would have been a good idea. Apparently the computer somehow programmed itself to nudge me. So who told my Mac that I want and need to post every day on Medium? I’ve only made that pledge inside my head. So computers can read minds now??
Or maybe I did say it out loud. So computers are listening to us now? Well, Siri and Alexa, sure, but my Mac doesn’t have this feature. Or does it? Is the AI apocalypse here already?
I’m sure a good IT person could tell me how this happens. IT people, please feel free to comment with your theories. In the meantime, I choose to believe it’s a magical and mystical notification.
You’ve heard the Goethe quote, “Whatever you do, or dream you can, begin it, Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.”
Here’s how I see it. I made the promise to myself, and the Universe, to post on Medium every day. the Universe communicated this pledge to my computer, the logistics of which are above my pay grade. My computer communicated it back to me in the form of a notification reminder. That’s my theory, and I’m going with it.
However, if the Universe and my computer really wanted to give me a push, wouldn’t the notification say, “Medium. Submit new story TODAY,” not tomorrow?
That’s sort of like the restaurants that post signs saying “Free tacos tomorrow,” or “Free Beer Tomorrow.” When you go in “tomorrow,” the sign says the same thing. Tomorrow never comes.
Is this a way to actually keep me from posting on Medium? By making it tomorrow, which never comes? In which case, who is it that has it in for me?
Is it my Mac, suddenly gaining enough AI self awareness to make a joke? Is it fellow Medium writers playing a prank? (You know how some of you are. Especially you Humor writers. I see you). Is it Medium and Apple conspiring to drive me crazy? How would that benefit anybody?
I guess the crazier I get, the funnier I might become. But that only benefits me and Medium. And only if I post today. It doesn’t help my computer, because as soon as I make enough money on Medium, I’m buying a new computer. Is my Mac notifying itself out of a job? What sense does that make?
