Saying yes is not the same thing as submitting or giving up.
How does that work in real life? A homeless man suffering from mental illness pulled a knife on me two years ago. It had been years since I trained in the martial art Aikido, but I instinctively measured my options. Fortunately, he gave me a warning, and therefore a chance. As he came up behind me and muttered gutturally, “Are you going to keep f***ing with me?” I turned slowly while simultaneously stepping off the curb to get further from him.
I looked into his eyes and said…
Actually, women have unlimited numbers of orgasms once we learn how, and while we’re alive. We don’t have much information on sex in the afterworld, other than Mark Twain’s conjectures in his book “Letters From The Earth.”
“Man has imagined a heaven, and has left entirely out of it the supremest of all his delights…sexual intercourse!…His heaven is like himself: strange, interesting, astonishing, grotesque. I give you my word, it has not a single feature in it that he actually values.”
― Mark Twain
I like to think there will be eternal sex, but maybe that’s just me. …
Once, I wrote my entire relationship history in one short, non-emotional, factual paragraph. The humorous, I hoped, plan was to text it to a first date to dispense with before the questions were asked. I never actually sent it. I’m also still single.
Here’s me, sans relationship history, longer than a paragraph, and I hope humorous and more interesting. Also in no specific order of occurrence, as that is how my mind works, and my careers have been.
I’ve been writing since I can remember. Haven’t most of us? All kinds. …
Elle Silver writes about being a celibate sex writer, hanging out with models in Barcelona and writing for Spanish Playboy. You can imagine how often she was hit on.
She writes that it was twenty years ago. My own early experiences with sexual pressure was longer ago than that. Post sexual revolution, but it seems pre-historic. Except, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
However, this isn’t a rant against sex. I love sex. I’ve often said most of my regrets are about the sex I turned down. Except for those who assumed sex on the first…
You say unite, I say untie. I saw this typo recently, and after laughing, realized it might be true. Biden and Harris will be tasked with untying the tangled web woven by 45s lies.
If Biden and Harris are going to untie America, what will they need to do it? A lot of persuasion, determination, knowledge of differences, and dexterity.
There are plenty of pundits talking about how Biden/Harris will unite the country, although I must confess a profound amount of pessimism about the chances of succeeding at that. But what about untying America? …
I awaken in a sweat, the result of the intense anger and disappointment I feel in my dream. To calm myself, I get up and make coffee in my own kitchen with the free trade, locally roasted beans I grind myself. I cradle the warm cup between my hands and breathe in the invigorating, comforting aroma, with its hints of chocolate and rich earth. I limit myself to two cups, but I mindfully immerse myself in the whole coffee ritual and experience.
Sometimes I think of the growers, the pickers, and the roasters. I’m so grateful for them.

Austin residents will vote on May 1st, 2021 on whether to criminalize camping and sleeping in public spaces. Word on the street is that Proposition B, to bring back the ban on public camping, will pass. If it does, what resources does the City of Austin already have in place for those currently camping in droves under underpasses and in grassy medians?
Not nearly enough, as the resources are already operating at capacity. However, resources that are in place are a model for other cities.
The Austin Shelter for Women and Children is run by the Salvation Army. It provides…
Jessica L. walked into my office over ten years ago. She was six feet tall and broad shouldered. She wore what she would later describe as “stripper trans.” Booty shorts with fishnet stockings, high heeled boots, and a crop top. She hadn’t started testosterone blocker or estrogen therapy yet, and she was sixteen years old.
When I started working with her in therapy on her transition journey, she and I learned the process together. I’d been aware and an ally of transgender issues snce Life Magazine described the rights of transgender people in Sweden in the early 1970s. I’d also…
A small restaurant owner in Austin, TX is against the city making a hotel in her neighborhood a place for supportive housing for those experiencing homelessness. This is a good woman. She came to the U.S. from an Asian country 40 years ago, and built her business from scratch. She gives away food to those who need it. When her own employee became homeless because of the pandemic, she let him park his RV in her parking lot and live there.
Recently, a man who is homeless came into her restaurant to ask for money. She told him she would…
My sister and I are planning a trip to see my son in California in May. She booked the Penthouse Airbnb she found, and asked me, “Do you have the money to send me half?” I said yes, then laughed and said, “The trick to money management is hiding it from yourself.”
I know some of you are good money managers. Sadly, I haven’t been until recently. In spite of the fact that my Mother became a stock broker after I left home, she never taught us anything she learned about handling money. Truth is, she learned in her 50s…
